Apple & Pear Compote

This simple fruit compote works for the whole family and it freezes really well. You can blitz it into a smoother purée, or mash it.

The addition of a cinnamon stick in Winter, or a vanilla pod (split in two) in Summer, add lovely flavour. Simply remove after cooking. We all enjoy eating compote for breakfast served with yoghurt, it also makes a healthy and naturally sweet snack.

  • x6 pears

  • x6 apples

Optional extras

  • x1 cinnamon stick

  • or, 1 vanilla pod spilt in two

Wash, peel and core the apples and pears, cut into wedges. Add to a pan with a tablespoon of water for every piece of fruit. Finally add the cinnamon stick. Cook on a low - medium heat for 10-20 minutes, or until the apples and pears are completely soft. Add more water if needed. Remove the cinnamon stick and discard.Cool and serve as it is, or blend using a hand blender, to the desired consistency.

Delicious served wth yoghurt.
