Berry Porridge

I cherish simple recipes like this one a warming fruit porridge is nourushing and comforting. One of the main challenges for me as a parent, when I started cooking for my daughter was the idea of cooking 3 homemade meals a day for her, plus snacks, then preparing food for myself. It is so much easier if you can adapt recipes which will work for your baby and the whole family.

Oat porridge is a great breakfast option, to add into your weekly meal plans, full of slow releasing carbohydrates to keep your children, and family, full throughout the morning. Use any fruit purees, compotes that you like and your family like too.

method

Cook the porridge according to packet instructions. Three minutes from the end of the cooking time, add a pinch of cinnamon.

Serve with any fruit purée you like (mashed banana is also great): I’m using a delicious berry and banana puree, swirled through the cinnamon porridge.

age recommendations

Recommended from 6 months + onwards (depending on when weaning was started). The consistency of the porridge can be altered depending on your baby’s “texture phase”; for a smoother texture, blend dry oats into a fine oat flour (see below). Instant baby porridge without the price tag. You may also prefer to opt for gluten free oats too, for smaller babies. Then introduce gluten slowly, if there is not history of food intolerance, if you have any concerns contact your health care advisor.
